Academic achievement assessment
When you want to better understand how your child is learning.
Selected Woodcock-Johnson V Tests of Achievement explore reading, written language, and mathematics. Results bring an objective perspective to your child’s strengths and areas for support.

- Individual academic tasks, scoring, and interpretation.

Optional measures, when relevant
- Dyslexia-focused screening to explore reading-related questions.

Academic achievement testing and screening do not provide a diagnosis or replace a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment.

An independent review of existing reports, IEPs, and educational records connects findings across documents and translates them into clear, practical recommendations.
What’s included
- Review of relevant educational documents, with scope agreed before booking.
- A written summary of strengths, patterns, and educational recommendations.
- A follow-up family meeting to discuss findings and next steps.
This service uses existing records and does not include new standardized testing or a diagnostic evaluation.

Educational insight.
A collaborative approach.
I’m Natasha, a certified teacher and the founder of Rooted Pathways. My experience in inclusive education shapes how I work with families: looking closely at strengths, listening to your questions, and connecting information to practical support.
I enjoy the problem-solving side of education: interpreting data, noticing patterns, and finding ways to make learning more accessible. My approach brings assessment information together with educational history, observations, and your knowledge of your child.
Rooted Pathways offers independent educational guidance for private/independent-school and homeschooling families in Nanaimo and surrounding areas.
Your questions, answered
A little more
clarity.
Still wondering about the right fit?
A brief conversation is a good place to begin.
Who are your services for?
Services are offered to private/independent-school and homeschooling families. Your child does not need a diagnosis, designation, or IEP, and a school referral is not required. Public-school families are outside the current service audience.
What is a Level B academic assessment?
Here, Level B refers to standardized academic achievement testing using selected Woodcock-Johnson V Tests of Achievement. Tasks explore areas such as reading, written language, and mathematics to help identify strengths, learning needs, and useful educational strategies.
The tests selected depend on your child’s educational history and the questions being explored.
Does assessment provide a diagnosis?
No. Academic achievement testing and dyslexia-focused screening do not establish or rule out a learning disability, ADHD, autism, or another diagnosis. They do not include cognitive testing or replace a comprehensive psychoeducational assessment.
Findings can support educational planning and help inform whether further assessment with an appropriately qualified professional may be useful.
Should I choose a file review or new assessment?
A file review is a useful starting point when you already have reports or IEPs and want help understanding patterns and recommendations. An academic assessment gathers new information about current academic skills.
If your main question is how to apply strategies, plan an IEP conversation, or navigate resources, consultation may fit. We can discuss the options in a free 10-minute consultation.
What will my child experience during testing?
Your child completes individual academic tasks in a quiet environment with limited distractions. These may include reading, writing, answering questions, and solving mathematics problems. Length depends on the child and the tests selected; appropriate breaks may be provided.
There is no pass or fail. Some tasks are intentionally challenging so we can better understand current skill levels.
Can we use the findings with our school?
Yes. Families receive their report directly and choose whether to share it with their child’s school or other professionals. Findings can support conversations about strategies, interventions, accommodations, and next steps.
Recommendations do not guarantee a diagnosis, designation, funding, or changes to school services.
Where do we meet, and how are fees confirmed?
Rooted Pathways serves Nanaimo and surrounding areas. Meeting format, location, and assessment arrangements are confirmed when we discuss the service.
Scope, fees, and any travel or work beyond the agreed service are confirmed before booking. Parent or guardian consent is required for minors.
